and, feel that the forums would be less exposed to abuse if registration was required for postings.[/b]

Hi Administrator.

In your announcement, "Migration to Forums", you mentioned that this new format provided new cool features and added security features, and listed 3 new 'cool' features. What are some of the added security features?

How about a link to the main Makansutra website? Clicking on the logo on the top left ( as well as "home") will bring you back only to the forum index.

You do need to register in order to post. I realized that I forgot to specify the settings for this particular forum "Feedback" which was a newly created one. sorry...

have changed it to "registered users only"

thanks!

security features include -

1. email authentication for new user registration, previously pp did not need to click on a link to activate their acct... this led to many providing false email adds, esp the users that were out to make trouble.

2. prevent users from changing their email address to fake ones - after registering with a real email add and activating the accts, some may try to change it so that they cannot be contactable. the previous forum wld have accepted the change without qn, but in this system it actually disables the account until the account has been reactivated via the link from the email.

3. registration requires you to agree to terms and conditions. previously the terms were implied but in this case it requires you to actively agree to it.

4. flood control - previously you can "flood" the forums, this is useful for pranksters who are out to spam the forums. now they will have to wait in between posts, and hopefully this will discourage flooding....

just to mention a few... if you keep posting here actively you will notice the difference

change sort order of posts

Postby makanAdmin1219 » Mon Oct 13, 2003 11:33 am

by default this is oldest post first.

for those who wld prefer to view newest first, at the bottom of the page, below the last post on the page, there is a drop down menu which allows you to change the sort order.

Under "Profile",
under "Pop up window on new Private Message:"

select Yes.

If you have a new PM, the next time you login you will see a popup window.

you can also select to be notified by email if you receive an email...

The background colour is more friendly than the last format - better for the eyes. Overall seemed easier to use. Good improvement effort done on this site!
